The mission on São Migue Island was part of the community and ecosystem study, which includes WP2: “Community level research: taxonomic, phylogenetic and functional diversity” and WP3: “Ecosystem level: soil quality and carbon” sink “. The objectives were to evaluate 30 forests (10 production forests, 10 exotic forests and 10 natural forests) the amount of biodiversity as well as soil characterization and estimated carbon accumulated by forest type.
